Southern Lee Struggles again at South Johnston

With some optimism coming out of last weeks loss at home to Triton where the Southern Lee Cavalier offense showed some explosiveness early and late in the game, that momentum quickly vanished as the Cavaliers fell to South Johnston 49-6 on the road in Four Oaks, NC.

After holding the Trojans to a three and out on their opening drive, Southern Lee took over at their own 49 yard line and eight plays later, found themsleves with first and goal at the South Johnston ten yard line. However, a misdirected pass by Junior Quarterback Caleb Coro was intercepted in the endzone by Trojans Defensive Back Cayden Odle, who returned it 102 yards for the touchdown and an early 7-0 South Johnston lead.

The Trojans would go one to score five more touchdowns to make it 42-0 as we started the 4^th quarter. Southern Lee was able to break the shutout as they marched down the field in a 5-play 75 yard drive, ending in a 20 yard touchdown throw from Coro to Junior Wide Receiver Gavin Shaffer. After a failed two-point conversion, South Johnston came right back down the field scoring on a 45 yard to make the final score 49-6.

Southern Lee (0-3, 0-6) hits the road again next week to face the defending Carolina Pines 6A conference champion Union Pines Vikings (3-0, 5-1) next Friday, October 9^th.
